Banner Tutorial August 1, 2011

Here’s another look for putting together a beautiful birthday banner. There are a few different ways to put together a banner. If this isn’t the look you were going for then check out my previous tutorial on hand tied banners over here.  For pennant banners, I prefer this look. It is also much quicker to assemble (hooray). For this tutorial, I am making the banner from the Fiesta collection available from my Etsy store. I love the bright colors!

You will need:

paper slicer

scissors

printed banner from my store

3/8 inch grosgrain ribbon

hole punch

pencil

Step one:

Cut your banner letters using the paper slicer.

Step two:

Punch holes in the corners. Where you punch the holes isn’t too important, however, you want all the letters triangles to be identical. Consistency is the key to a beautiful looking banner. What I like to do is use some scrap paper to make a template. Mark your first hole on the template and punch a hole. Now use the template on the actual triangle letter. For the opposite side, flip the template over. This ensures that the hole is in exactly the same location. Once you’ve punched the two holes in your first letter, you can place this letter over the other ones to mark where you are going to punch the rest of the holes.

Step three:

Once the holes are all punched, you can thread your ribbon. For this banner, I used a total of 78 1/2 inches of ribbon but you can use less if you have smaller gaps between the individual letters or between the two words. Also, if you don’t want one very long banner, you can make two banners- one for Happy and another one for Birthday. Don’t forget that you will need extra ribbon on the ends if you are planning on tying the banner to something.

Graduation party- printable collection May 10, 2011

I was contacted by Jessica to create cupcake toppers and other party supplies for her sister’s high school graduation. Jenni’s church is having a graduation party for all the seniors. Each senior gets their own table and has to bring snacks and decorate it however they would like. How lovely is that idea? Here are the cupcake toppers that I’ll be offering in the store. I have purposely used Times New Roman font! The old stand-by font we all grew up with.

High School

The request for personalized cupcake toppers got me thinking about other party supplies that would make a big impact when decorating a table.

I love water bottle wrappers. They make a big impact with not much effort!

Water bottle wrappers

And if you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know that I am obsessed with personalized chocolate bar wrappers that double up as keepsakes. I make them every year for my kid’s birthdays and keep the wrapper. I also send the personalized chocolate bars to family that couldn’t be at the party. So, of course, I had to make Jenni some chocolate bar wrappers that she could use as table favors. Don’t these look great?

The wrappers are personalized with the school name, the school’s team (in Jenni’s case- the Panthers), and the name of the graduate. Of course, the wrappers feature the school colors!

Know someone who is graduating? Need some unique and fun party decorations? I can customize the cupcake toppers, the water bottle wrappers and the chocolate bars to meet your school colors! Jennis’ school colors are dark green and black; however, she wanted a splash of purple so that the party supplies reflect her personal tastes! Here is a color chart of standard school colors however, I can of course use other shades.

Party “Welcome” Door Signs March 29, 2011

I am so happy to have mailed off some fun party decorations and invites to Tisha this morning! She is having a joint birthday party with her husband. In fact their wedding anniversary’s sandwiched in between the two birthdays so they really do have a lot to celebrate! I enjoyed working with her on the invites and am thrilled with the final product. The invites are 5 inches by 7 inches and have a bright white card stock overlay. The overlay is tied to the card with about 8 inches of grosgrain ribbon which are cut on a diagonal. I printed their return address on the envelopes so all she has to do is address them.

Invites

The invites match the Happy Birthday banner which I had listed in my Etsy shop. I do have more of this amazing card stock so keep an eye on my shop… I may just have to make another one of these. I love that the colors are bright. Also, some of the paper in this collection has glitter, too.

As a special treat for the birthday gal (and guy!), I made a welcome door sign for them to hang on their front door. This is a fun way to create a party atmosphere from the moment people enter the house.

I really like making welcome signs for parties. I think they are really fun and add  a nice touch. I sell print your own door signs in my Etsy store. The one below is part of the sailboat collection. I love making party collections and think it is really fun to have matching invites, cupcake toppers, party circles, etc.
