Favorite Firefighter Party Printables August 23, 2014

Having a firefighter themed birthday party? This is such a fun motif and almost all little boys, at one time or another, want to be a firefighter. I know my four year old is obsessed with firetrucks, the siren, and basically all things ‘heroic’… be it fictional superheroes like Superman and Batman, or real life heroes such as firefighters and police officers.

One of the easiest ways to get a personalized look for your party is to purchase printables or custom made items. Etsy is a treasure trove of amazing items by fabulous artisans. Here are some of my favorites!

Enjoy your party planning! My biggest advice- no matter your theme, style or budget- start planning early and if you decide to use party printables, then be sure to get everything ordered and printed as early as possible so you are not scrambling at the last minute to put everything together. Inevitably, it’ll take a lot longer than you expect so start early!

Helicopter Birthday Party May 6, 2013

Helicopter party ideas

My son, Asher, is crazy about helicopters so the theme for his 2nd birthday party last year was very easy to decide.

For the decorations, I kept a very simple blue and red color scheme. I hung large white tissue pompoms from our chandelier to give the effect of clouds and I used blue paper fans on the backdrop. I purchased a wooden A from my local craft store and I spray painted it light blue. I figure that I can use this after the party in his bedroom.

For the dessert table, I ordered large sugar cookies from “C is for Cookie” to match the printables. One of my sweetest friends, Ashley, made vanilla bean cake pops for the table. She of course made them using light blue chocolate and she added red sprinkles. The chocolate cake and the vanilla cupcakes were from a local bakery. I also had Hershey Kisses which I’d personalized with stickers that said “A Kiss From Asher”.

Since his party was in the morning, we served breakfast food, including powdered doughnuts which we called “Doughnut Clouds”…. The kids thought that was fantastic. For the adults, we served a green chili sausage casserole and fresh fruit with dipping sauce.

The majority of the children at the party were aged between two and four years old, we decided to forego traditional party games. Instead, we had a plethora of toys available for them to play with and we set up a glitter tattoo station. That was a huge hit with the parents as well as the kids! Since we had Danielle from All Things Great and Small Photography taking photos at the party I was able to relax and do the glitter tattoos instead of behind a camera taking photos the whole time.

For the party favors, we gave out “Marshmallow Clouds”. These were basically glassine envelopes that I’d filled with large white marshmallows. I added a large label and tied a “thank you for flying with me” hang tag using blue and white twine. I displayed them up at the drink station inside a red cardboard suitcase with a tag that read “Baggage Claim”.

Lincoln’s 1st “Elephant” Birthday Party March 31, 2013

elephant themed birthday party

As you know, I absolutely love it when my clients send me photos from their celebrations. I love seeing how they used the printables and the ideas they came up with. Thank you so much Mari for sharing photos of Lincoln’s 1st birthday party. It looks like the party was so beautiful and I’m sure the birthday boy had a blast. There were so many cute touches… I especially liked the wooden clothes pegs being used for the buffet table labels, the buckets she used for the peanuts and the shells, and of course, his amazing birthday cake.

The elephant collection is available in my Etsy store… Beautiful shades of blue and green with cute polka dots, plaid and checks. The adorable elephant is spraying little heart-shaped water drops. This is still one of my favorite party collections! I recently revised the full collection listing to allow you guys to choose eight items from a list- that way you can get the exact printables that you need for your party. At only $45 this a really good value. If you only need a couple items then you can check out the individual listings for the invite, pennant Happy Birthday banner, cupcake toppers, thank you tags, water bottle wrappers, extra large party circles, Hershey kiss stickers, and the full size chocolate bar wrappers. I also have a listing for the essentials where you get to choose 4 items for $25.

If you are planning an elephant party– be it a baby shower or a birthday party- you should check out my board on Pinterest where I have pinned lots of fun ideas.

Tristan’s “Vroom Vroom” 2nd Birthday Party! December 3, 2012

Aqua and Blue Car Party

I met Laura last year when she contacted me via Facebook with a request to design her son’s first birthday party. She wanted an Elephant theme in blue and light green. You can see photos from that party here. I noticed that she lived in my area so I ended up inviting her over one evening and helped her put together the party pieces for Tristan’s party. It was her first time throwing a party using prinables and I had fun showing her how to cut out and assemble the individual pieces. Suffice to say, a friendship developed and even though she moved to Texas, Laura asked me to create a collection for Tristan’s second birthday party.

I love designing a new collection and enjoy the entire collaboration process with my client. Laura was especially easy to work with! She asked for a fun pattern (we ended up going with chevron) in aqua and red. Her son is really into cars at the moment so that was the theme. I think everything turned out gorgeous and Laura did a fantastic job with the party. Can you believe that everything was hand-made? Tristan’s grandma even made the cupcakes and frosting from scratch.  The sandwiches were cut out into car shapes and the number two (using cookie cutters), Laura’s sister made the cake pops and the chocolate race cars with teddy grahams was a team project. The idea for the little race cars came from Pinterest.

Thank you so much Laura for letting me share the photos from Tristan’s second birthday! He is such a gorgeous boy and I look forward to working with you next year to design his 3rd birthday party printables.

This aqua and red car collection is now available in my Etsy store. You can purchase the water bottle wrappers, cupcake toppers, banner with name, car cut outs, and thank you favor tags. The favor tags are designed to be cut into squares. I love how Laura rounded the corners and stuck them on red and white Chinese style take out boxes.

Jacob’s Superman Birthday Party October 9, 2012

I was really happy when Rachel from Ellicott City, MD contacted me to revamp the Comic Book Superhero Collection for her son’s second birthday. Rachel needed just the Superman part of the collection and wanted me to omit the Liechtenstein-eque polkadot pattern and the starbursts. I think it looks fantastic and I can tell from the photos Rachel sent me that Jacob had a wonderful birthday. What do you think of the birthday cake? If you live in near Halethorpe, Maryland, you should definitely check out Ms. Desserts. Or take a look at the Facebook page.

Thank you so much Rachel for sharing these photos from Jacob’s SUPER special day!

Tristan’s First Birthday! An Elephant Party March 4, 2012

I love getting photos from my clients of their events. This elephant party is especially adorable. Mum, Laura, thought of everything. She even dyed her deviled eggs blue and green and gave out M&M candies with her son’s face printed on them! Her son, Tristan, has the Eli elephant bedding set from Pottery Barn Kids and loved it so much that she wanted to continue the elephant theme for his first birthday party. She served open faced tea sandwiches, deviled eggs, veggies with dip, elephant shaped rice crispy treats and elephant shaped cookies. For dessert she offered home-made cupcakes and the birthday boy got to dig into his very own smash cake!

Check out these party photos, taken by Christie Griffin Photography. If you live in the Pensacola, Florida area, be sure to contact Christie at 850.207-0551 to arrange for her to photograph your next party! Her e-mail address is: cadgriffin1989@att.net:

All these items are now available in my Etsy store and the full collection is available here. I think this party collection would be fantastic for a baby shower. I can change the text for you if you do need it for a baby shower so just contact me via e-mail… apartystudio@gmail.com

You Are My Sunshine Party! February 24, 2012

My client Lauren is planning a You Are My Sunshine party for her soon to be one year old son, Hayden. I had so much fun collaborating with her on this project and designing a collection that focuses on orange and yellow with blue as an accent color. She recently sent me a photo of her first birthday party project. How adorable is this?

Can you believe she found this adorable bucket at the dollar store? Thanks for sharing Lauren!

For the tag, Lauren used one of the You Are My Sunshine cupcake toppers. These are now available in my Etsy store! You can check out the whole collection here.

Super G Turns Three! Superhero Birthday Party Photos February 13, 2012

I love, love, love it when my clients send me photos from their parties! Not only do I get a huge kick out of seeing the products I designed and personalized for them ‘in action’ but I also think it is amazing how each of my clients takes the particular party collection and gives it a different look! For example, check out these two Mickey Mouse birthday parties- one for a girl and one for a boy! I was SUPER excited when Heather sent me photos from her son’s third birthday party! They threw him a fun-filled superhero birthday party with lots of great home-made touches! Check out these photos:

I designed the tent style buffet table labels especially for Heather. I will add them to my Etsy store soon but in the meantime, I have included them as an option in the full party collection.

I love the cute lollipops wearing masks and capes! That is too cute and I bet the kiddies loved these. She decorated the top of the cape with one of the cupcake topper party circles.

Heather- thank you so much for sharing your party photos! I can tell that Super G had an amazing birthday. You can see more pictures, including some action ones from the party games, on Catch My Party!

You can check out a couple other Superhero parties that feature my printables here, here and here. I also have a Superhero Pinterest board that you may want to check out and follow. Don’t forget to like my Facebook page and follow me on Twitter!

Blue and Yellow Party February 8, 2012

After he spent two months in Afghanistan (missing Thanksgiving/Christmas/Chanukkah/New Years and MY birthday), I wanted to do something special for my husband’s birthday. It was his birthday 10 days after he got back from the ‘Stan and I thought he’d want a get-togeteher will his friends so I was really surprised when I asked him about throwing a dinner party or having friends over for dinner that he told me that he just wanted to have a low-key birthday with me and the kids.

His birthday morning arrived and I decided to bake him a cake and get a few of his favorite things… for my husband this means Single Malt Scotch, chocolates and a home cooked meal! I picked up a bunch of ‘guy’ cookbooks from the library and told him I’d cook any meal in there! One a side note… A week later, he choose the bourbon and brown sugar salmon from the Esquire Eat Like a Man cookbook and it was incredibly delicious!

For choosing the Scotch, I played it safe and picked bottles that I know he’s had in the past, including his favorite, the Balvenie Double Wood. I printed out a ‘write up’ of each Scotch, with information about the nose, taste and finish of each. He was super impressed with my knowledge and research of single malt scotch whisky but I did admit to him that I got all the information direct from the distiller’s website!

For his cake, I have to admit that baking is not my forte! I picked up two boxes of white cake mix from my local grocery store so that I could make a 9 inch 4 layer cake. I spread Nutella (gorgeous hazelnut chocolate spread) inside the cake between the layers and stuck hazelnut pirouette sticks on the outside. So, the cake may not have looked incredible but it sure did taste good! My only complaint was that the pirouettes lost their crunch because they were pressed against buttercream frosting.

For the decorations, I kept things really simple. I created a simple blue, white and yellow pennant style banner and I made some tissue pompoms from tissue paper. I hung the pompoms with white lanterns. Tissue paper pompoms are so easy to make- you just a need a little patience! Here’s a tutorial that I posted a while back showing how to make these. The banner was really easy to put together: print, cut, punch holes and thread ribbon. Again, here’s a tutorial that I posted on putting together banners!

So, happy birthday to my amazing husband who came home after months overseas, spent 2 weeks at home and is now on another trip. Thankfully, this one is only 5 weeks and he’ll be staying the in the States!
